Researchers Develop Novel Mirror Coatings

CMS, along with an international collaboration of scientists from the University of Vienna and JILA, a joint institute of the University of Colorado and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, CO, USA, published results today demonstrating a tenfold reduction in mechanical loss in high-reflectivity optical coatings. The work, reported in Nature Photonics, represents an entirely new approach for generating high-performance optical coatings, key components of state-of-the art optical cavities for precision measurement.
Crystalline Coatings Take Elba by Storm
CMS received top billing at the 2013 Gravitational Wave Advanced Detector Workshop, held between the 19th and 25th of May in Elba, Italy. As described in “h – The Gravitational Voice,” a publication of the European Gravitational Observatory and the Virgo Collaboration, our crystalline coating technology was “unanimously declared the most exciting result of the workshop.”
CLEO Highlights Crystalline Coating Technology
Crystalline Mirror Solutions was honored to participate in the Technology Transfer Showcase portion of the of the CLEO Technology Transfer Program. The session, chaired by Robert Mandra of RSM Advisors, included presentations on license-ready technologies by MIT technology licensing officer David Sossen, VerLASE president and CEO George Powch, INFRASIGN co-founder Anadi Mukherjee, Kyushu University professor Totaro Imasaka, and of course our very own Garrett Cole of CMS.
